Why Send Our Students Away For School?
Andy Gammill’s article “Is African boarding school the answer for Indiana’s inner-city kids?” gave me chills right off the bat. Is our educational system and economy getting so bad that university professors are even looking at this as an option for inner-city students? What happened to getting the right folks to the table and coming up with options that not only help to provide the right kind of educational options for these students but to also help struggling cities and depressed town in their plight of poverty, crime, and joblessness.
Are the right people even being invited to the table? Are we addressing this in a comprehensive way? Do we have economists, educators, financial experts, businessman, community leaders, and entrepreneurs in the discussion? It’s not rocket science, these integrated and complex issues need the brain power of not just one industry but a host of industries combined at the same time to move this issue in a positive direction.
Before we start shipping students to far away lands…let’s get the right folks to the table in our own country. Wow! Thanks Andy for inspring me to get back on my soapbox…perhaps I can pass that same motivation forward to another!
