Do You Call Back Wrong Numbers

KS101574So this weekend a number that I wasn’t familiar with kept calling my cell phone…of course my first thought is someone trying to sell me insurance, a home warranty, coffee of the month club…you know the usual suspects.  Then my second thought was oh great I forgot to pay the credit card company, or my cable bill, or utilities.  The kicker is when you actually have a voice mail left from the caller.  Well now I can solve the mystery…it wasn’t someone trying to sell me something and I diligently took care of my bills for the month…so who was it?  A very nice older women who we’ll call “Jackie” who was leaving a message for her daughter who we’ll call “Becky”.  Now I’ve had wrong numbers before on other phones and at work, normally the caller would know when I pick up that they have the wrong number.  If they leave a voice mail it’s usually pretty brief and no other details except for the person’s name and number are left on the recorder.  Not in this case!  Jackie was leaving a message for Becky and let me tell you it was a doozy…everything from where she was currently at and getting onto the train to something about the job that Becky should take and how it would help her not in the long run but in the short run financially to making sure that she got the flu shot at the free clinic…and that was just the first call.  Jackie proceeded to call my phone a few more times over the weekend and continued to leave the same types of very descriptive messages to her daughter.

Now my question to you is…do you call  this woman back and tell her that none of her messages made it to Becky because she is calling the wrong number, or do you leave well enough alone and hope that Becky eventually called her mom back to say that she didn’t receive any of those messages and that they hopefully have verified Becky’s correct phone number?  I’m just curious as to what you would do?  For the record, I did not call Jackie back…

Call back...

I would for sure call her back. I have actually had a similar situation happen to me (person left a message on my cell phone for someone else...) and I did call the person back to let them know they had the wrong number. I am not sure why I made the call back...seemed like the "right" thing to do at the time.

Call Back

Thanks for the post :D...I do think you're right and it's the courteous thing to do. Since I don't have that person's number anymore, if she does happen to call me again, I will let her know.
