Connect In Real Life

This past weekend I was in Henderson, NV for the annual Henderson Senior Games (for clarification purposes, senior here is defined as 45 years and older).  Saturday's activities were separated into a women's tournament and a men's tournament while Sunday was the coed division.

Although the competitiveness was very abundant, the most important take away from this weekend was the relationships and friendships that were strengthened as a result of this common love for volleyball.  Don't get me wrong, yes, off the court gave our volleyball community a chance to relax and catch up on the latest without the sweat and exhaustion, but the true test of connectedness really happened on the court.

It's about quick thinking, commitment, communication, celebration, support, and engagement working seamlessly among six people from the beginning serve through the last touch of the ball.

For that moment in time, we are all "on the same page" for a common goal and we depend on one another to step in when needed, without being told, and in turn, we deliberately validate their efforts with the proverbial "high five!"  Yes, you can click a button on Facebook to "like" someone's post or some funny picture, but there is nothing better than a true heartfelt hand smash among teammates!  Go TEAM!
