Are You Investing In Your Self Esteem?

There are some incredible articles that I’ve come across in just a short time, which have really given me a new perspective on the world in general.  I continue to be fascinated by the sincerity, candor, and insight from people everywhere.  The latest is a blog from a wonderful website on self esteem.  The article is entitled “Self Esteem:  Why Self Esteem Matters”.

I think it all starts with yourself.  You cannot expect to contribute to, comment on, respond to, or participate in the wonderful world around you if you don’t have the self esteem to support the confidence that helps a person to take initiative.  Without that foundation, you may still have a desire but lack the strength to implement it.  You want to…but are just too afraid.

I love that this article addressed some of the workplace issues that deal with self esteem.  There are a lot of people in very prominent positions within their company who are not necessarily the most qualified for that position.  So why are they there?  They have developed the self esteem which feeds their confidence level which in turn gives them the opportunity to get their foot in the door…eventually sitting at the table with the decision makers.  They come across very reassuring, calm, confident, strong, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done.  That really holds more weight than someone who, on paper, fits the qualifications perfectly but lacks the confidence to make the other person truly believe in who they are and what they bring.

That’s not to say that you should ignore those qualifications or skip over the criteria for that position but it does mean that along with the accolades is the internal qualification of self esteem that completes the circle.  Together they both play an important role in your success and the earlier that we address these in children, the better off they will be in developing their own healthy self esteem to better themselves and enhance the world around them.
