30 days into my Action Plan
In September I posted a blog about a “life action plan” I was going to start to follow. Click here for a link to that blog.
I am 30 days in and here is a recap:
Action Steps:
- Open my eyes to outliers as they will help me overcome denial (even denial I do not know is present). This idea (like all the ideas of my Action Plan) was presented to me at Willow Creek Leadership Summit. This is an idea of Gary Hamel. Boy would I love to call him up and discuss the difficulty of ACTUALLY doing this! I have tried very hard this month to take everyone’s ideas in and NOT follow them with a reply of…”yea but…” This is harder than you might think. I will continue to work on this one.
- Remember Failure is Success! After I hang up with Gary Hamel, I am going to call Dave Gibbons’ to discuss this idea of his…again very hard for me to do this. I have a few big projects in my mind that I would like to start, but I am so afraid of not being able to do the project 100% that I have talked myself out of starting them right now. More progress on this one later too…
- Take time to journal for reflection. Bill Hybels presented this idea to me and finally some success! I have not gotten to the point of writing down my reflections yet, but I reflect on my day during the ride home for work. No radio…windows down for fresh air…think about the day’s events. I have created this internal rating system of what was a positive event and what was a negative event. The next step with this will be writing down my thoughts so I can go back at a later time and act on them if needed.
- Read daily. David Gergen’s idea was the easiest one for me to implement. There is so much knowledge to be gained, and I live on the information super highway.
I will continue to work through these action steps and update you on my progress. If anyone has Hamel or Gibbon’s phone number, pass it right here…lol~
